Brief Story Write up

Given the current world economic crisis, training in basic business skills alone can not have a fundamental impact. Supported by the Embassy of Japan in South Sudan in partnership with UNDP South Sudan, RDAA South Sudan, has trained 20 women in Jur River County, Western Bahr-El-Ghazel State in Business Skills and supported them with Startup kits to enable them apply the business skills with an objective of helping them improve the livelihood of their households. Among the startup kits distributed are Startup kits for establishment of Team Making shops, Restaurants and small scale mixed good businesses.

These women are supported under the project entitled: Promote capacity strengthening and empowerment for community led-inclusive socio-economic interventions geared towards collaborative inter-dependencies and peaceful coexistence between communities, which is supporting returnees, internally displaced people, refugees and ex-combatants in Jur River County.

Objectives of the Activity

      • To support community-led peace initiatives to prevent and resolve conflicts aimed at addressing communal tensions and conflicts, reducing tensions, preventing, and resolving conflicts between host communities and returnees/refugees/internally displaced persons.
      • To provide psychosocial support and trauma awareness to communities, including host communities and returnees/refugees/internally displaced persons, affected conflict.
      • To facilitate community economic empowerment aimed at enhancing community resilience as part of conflict prevention approach.
      • Improve household income and and hence livelihood
      • To teach the beneficiaries ways in which they can maintain their source of income and livelihood.
