Brief Story Write up

Supported by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Rural Developmet Action Aid Continues to provide humanitarian support to survivors of Conflict related human rights abuses in South Sudan.

On the 23/7/2024, We  have carried out a victim centered tailored dialogue with the survivors of human rights abuses with an objective to inform the about the commission  for truth reconciliation and healing (CTRH) and the compensation and reparation authority (CRA) which are part of chapter 5 of the reviatalized peace agreement in the bid to listen to their views and there after encourage them to participate in the processes of the fact finding once these committees come to there location. That way they will increase their chances of getting justice for the human rights abuses committed against them during the conflict.

The Project major targets women and girls who are survivors of conflict related sexual violence, ex-combatants, disabled due to conflict, children born out of rape, and internally displaced persons.

Objectives of the Activity

  •  To explain the meaning of CTRH and CRA to the survivors and how they will be useful
  • To listen to the survivors views and challenges
  • To encourage the survivors to participate actively in the fact finding process once these committees come to them

Results/Issues discussed and outcome of the Activity

Results.

1.  Participants were very interested in knowing how the CTRH and CRA will function

2.  Many participants showed signs of relief for the news about a possibility of justice

3.  Participants and their stake holders thanked RDAA and UNDP for reaching up to them and for  the support offered

Issues discussed:

  • Procure details, objectives, components and expected results
  • Sustainability and ownership by community
  • Building on synergies in partnership.

Outcomes:

1.    72 participants were engaged during the dialogue

2.    Both stakeholders and participants  became aware of possibilities if achieving justice

3. Project visibility items such as T-shirts and banners with logs of Funders and RDAA are disposed

Results/Issues Discussed and Outcome of the Activity

  • Participants appreciated UNDP for funding RDAA for such great initiatives
  • State minister of peacebuilding advised RDAA and UNDP to extend such activities to grass root level
  • Chairperson for Peace Commission such projects to be extended to highly hit areas of conflict such
