Brief Story Write up

In our bid to continue filling gaps in development in South Sudan, United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has been a major funding partner especially in quick impact projects. Following the same partern, this year 2022, UNMISS has once again granted us an opportunity to implement a quick impact project for the construction of Yubu bridge located along Sakura Road on Yubu river at the boarder between Yambio and Nzara Counties.

This is quick impact project number 15 of the ones we have so far successfully implemented. This year we are blessed to implement two of such projects that is to say one for the construction of a three class room block and staff office at Daa-Dokolo Primary school in Mvolo County and the second is the construction of Yubu bridge in Yambio County

On this day of the 9th March 2022, the governor of Western Equatoria State, H.E Lt.Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba commissioned the construction of  Yubu bridge and present with him were the state minister for roads and bridges, Hon. Anna Tunna and other state government dignitaries, in the company of representatives from international NGOs such as WFP, UNICEF, UNHCR, WorldVision not forgetting the community leaders and the community members them selves.

The construction of this bridge is a blessing for the people living in Yambio and Nzara counties because its absence has caused lots of losses to farmers, children have lost their lives especially during the rainy season while trying to access their school, it has been impossible to bring the sick from across to access better medical services in Yambio, it has also been a security threat to the people using that to road, it has been very difficult people in Yambio to access their farms across the river.

Objectives of the Activity

  1. To have another root that can connect Yambio to Nzara
  2. To facilitate easy transportation of agricultural produce from Gangura to Yambio
  3. To do away with people drowning  due to flooding during the rainy season
  4. To Ease movement of school children from Gangura to Sakure
  5. To facilitate movement of sick people from Gangura for referrals to Yambio state hospital
  6. To enable farmers living in Yambio and farming in Gangura to be able to access their farm lands all the time.

Expected Results

  1. Improved inflow of agricultural produce from Gangura
  2. Improved access to schools by the school children studying in Yambio
  3. Improved access to better health care services
  4. Improved security
  5. Increased possibilities for people in Yambio Accessing their farms in Gangura
